🍵 Matcha

What’s the difference between ceremonial and culinary matcha?

Ceremonial-grade matcha is made from the youngest, most tender tea leaves harvested during the first flush of the season. It has a vibrant green color, smooth texture, and a naturally sweet, delicate flavor with minimal bitterness. This grade is best enjoyed on its own with just water, traditionally whisked into a frothy tea (Usucha or Koicha). It’s ideal for those who want to experience matcha in its purest form — perfect for tea ceremonies or mindful daily rituals.

Culinary-grade matcha, on the other hand, is made from slightly more mature leaves. It has a stronger, more robust flavor with a touch of bitterness, making it perfect for mixing with other ingredients. It’s best used for lattes, smoothies, baked goods, and desserts, where its bold taste can still shine through.

How should I store my matcha?

Keep your matcha in an airtight container and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. For optimal freshness, refrigerate after opening. Before using it again, allow it to return to room temperature.
